Working environment

We offer the following:

Hybrid and flexible working

At London’s Air Ambulance Charity, we acknowledge that most people prefer to work a hybrid of remote and office working and we offer flexibility to self organise on the principle that organisational needs take priority, followed by team needs and then individual requirements.

We acknowledge the research that demonstrates home working facilitates the deep focus that some work requires.  We also believe that it is important to spend time with each other to build and strengthen relationships on a social basis, as well as for work and learning and that culture is built on contact and collaboration that creates an enhanced sense of us being all in this together

As a guide, we anticipate that most of the charity office team will be in a minimum of 8 days per month to support collaborative and team working and contribute towards a thriving culture.

Our operations and clinical colleagues continue to operate 24/7, 365 days a year for London.

Working hours

Full time equivalent working hours at London’s Air Ambulance Charity are 35 hours per week, with core working hours of 10:00 – 16:00 at your workspace, at home or in the office.

In addition to hybrid working, we encourage flexible working arrangements and working patterns can be agreed with your manager to suit both parties.

Charity team offices – Mansell Street

Our head office is based in Central London only a short walk to Fenchurch Street train station, Aldgate East tube station and Tower Gateway DLR. The open plan, friendly environment offers hot desk arrangement with accessible formal and informal meeting hubs.

Values and behaviours

Our values are compassionate, courageous and pioneering and we each commit to being advocates and stewards of these at all times. We exemplify our values through our behaviour framework.

Employee wellbeing

We offer a range of wellbeing initiatives including a wellbeing hub, dedicated policies and working groups.

Employee assistance programme

We have an employee assistance programme, available to employees and secondees to London’s Air Ambulance Charity. The service is free, anonymous and confidential and offers online, phone and face-to-face support around a wide variety of life events including legal, financial and emotional matters.

We also offer access to a wellness app called 87% that provides advice, coping strategies, fitness, mental health and wellbeing programmes, resilience techniques, life coaching and signposting to a full range of support.

Social and fundraising events

The organisation regularly organises staff events and promotes the participation of various fundraising events including opportunities outside working hours to get to know colleagues.

We have frequent drinks at Sam’s, social and sporting events, lunch dates and birthday cake in the office. There are informal post work run clubs, tickets to sporting and cultural events and the occasional camping and hiking trips.

At the more extreme end of the scale we have had teams doing ultra-challenges like the Marathon de Sables and a Channel Swim relay.

Health & Wellness Group

Our Health & Wellness Group aims to support people's physical health & safety and mental health, in line with our culture and values. We create opportunities to discuss Health & Wellness, and promote messages, activities and events to bring employees together e.g. Menopause Cafes. We also create and signpost essential resources to help us promote a healthy working culture.

Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

At London’s Air Ambulance Charity we aspire to be representative of the communities we serve in London. We acknowledge we’re on a journey and we each need to contribute to make it an enriching, empowering and inclusive experience along the way.

Our employee-led EDI Network, All Inclusive, advocates for and supports London’s Air Ambulance Charity to be an inclusive environment in which all employees, partners and volunteers feel safe, valued and that they belong.

Compensation and reward

Our base salaries are reviewed against market rates and maintain a competitive position. Whether you are a parent looking after children or have responsibilities for supporting elderly parents or relatives we have family friendly policies to support you.

Annual leave

Our annual leave entitlement is 27 days per annum, plus bank holidays (pro-rated for part-time working).

The charity office is closed between Christmas and the New Year, providing an additional three days holiday each year. The operations team, who work shifts, will have these days added to their annual leave allowance.

Moving leave

We offer one day paid moving leave annually to support people to move house.

Volunteering leave

London’s Air Ambulance Charity offers one day paid volunteering leave each year, to support and encourage contributions to the wider community and engage in causes we are passionate about. This day is available to everyone and other paid volunteering days are available on application.

Illness absence

Our baseline sick pay is calculated on length of service and applies to absence in any rolling 12-month period:

  • Up to 12 months’ service - one week’s pay
  • Over 12 months and up to two years’ service - three weeks’ pay
  • Over two years’ service - five weeks’ pay

Additional company sick pay may be offered at the manager’s or director’s discretion, dependent on circumstances, based on the principle that taking the amount of time you need to properly recover ensures you come back to work well and fully focused. We offer back-to-work interviews and return-to-work plans after an extended period of sick leave to help support health and wellbeing.

Compassionate leave

Compassionate leave is available in exceptional circumstances, at the manager/director’s discretion, for unplanned and unexpected responsibilities or personal emergencies. This includes, but isn’t limited to, bereavement, caring responsibilities, pet medical emergencies and mental health days.

We offer the following benefits:
