Mark Drewitt

To help our service continue flying and mark 30 years of care in the Capital, we're asking London to host Life Saving Tea Parties in support of our charity this Summer. To help get you in the spirit for hosting tea parties of your own, we’ve sat a few members of our crew down for a cup of tea and asked the burning questions we know you have always wanted to – that is, about their preferences when it comes to tea, coffee and cake.

Fire Officer Mark reveals his choices when it comes to tea and cake, and who he would most like to have a cup of tea with.

What is your name and what do you do for London’s Air Ambulance Charity?

I’m Mark, I’m one of the Fire Crew for the helipad. On a day to day basis, we give fire cover for the helipad itself, or any aviation movements – because we’re 17 floors up, we don’t have time to wait in case of an emergency.

What is your favourite thing about working here?

It’s a very close-knit, tight team that’s making a huge difference to people’s lives.

What is your cake of choice?

I’m gonna have to say carrot cake.

How do you take your tea?

White with one sugar.

Scone (as in gone) or scone (as in cone)?

As in gone.

Water before milk or milk before water?

Water before milk, otherwise you can’t judge the colour.

Cream before jam or jam before cream?

Cream before jam.

What’s your favourite sandwich filling?

Beef and horseradish.

If you were a biscuit, what would you be and why?

I would say a bourbon, because it’s sweet and it’s good to dunk.

If you could have a cup of tea with anybody, who would you like to have a cup of tea with?

I’d say Ayrton Senna, the formula one driver. It’d be interesting to talk about how he got to where he was and what he’d achieved.
