In the countdown to the London Marathon, our charity’s runners got together last night for a “pre-match” Pasta Party.

This year, 34 runners will be taking on the 26.2 mile run to fundraise for our charity. The event, hosted in collaboration with Coco di Mama, gave the team a chance to meet ahead of the big day. The runners shared their tips, nerves and excitement as they began the important pre-marathon ritual of carb-loading. Coco di Mama also kindly donated some pasta to our Opps Crew to fuel them on today’s shift.

Not content with the challenge of running a Marathon alone, one team member is also planning to earn his place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Instead of donning our charity’s jersey, Matthew will be running dressed as G-EHMS to beat the record for Fastest Marathon Dressed as a Helicopter (currently standing at 5 hours and 3 minutes). Also joining the team will be London’s Air Ambulance CEO Jonathan Jenkins and Paramedic Charlie Henderson, both of whom only completed the 250km Marathon des Sables last week. The team are collectively set to raise an incredible £60,000 to help our service, enough for our advanced trauma team to treat 35 patients.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Coco di Mama for hosting this event to help our runners prepare for Sunday, and to our team for taking on the challenge for our charity. If you’re heading to watch the Marathon, be sure to give our runners a cheer.
