“I remember saying goodbye to my family, explaining I was merely picking up a parcel and then I’d be back. Only minutes later I remember seeing a lorry and thinking: “Please don’t tell me he hasn’t seen me!’”

“I sustained severe head injuries, collapsed lungs and a broken shoulder and elbow and was in need of special help,” says James.

“ONE DOESN’T NORMALLY FIND ONESELF IN A POSITION WHERE THE NEED FOR OTHERS IS SO GREAT."

James in the cockpit

The doctor and paramedic from London’s Air Ambulance performed surgery at the roadside to re-inflate James’ lungs and enable him to breathe. Once James was stabilised the team airlifted him to The Royal London Hospital. "I am eternally thankful to London’s Air Ambulance.

“It is not an experience that could be wished upon anybody. But if I or someone in my family are ever in need again I truly hope London’s Air Ambulance will be there.”

James' nephew JJ

“Following my accident, my five year old nephew JJ felt inspired to undertake a sponsored swim to raise money for London’s Air Ambulance. He managed to raise £2,257, enough to send London’s Air Ambulance to another person. We are all extremely proud of him and thrilled that he took so much pride and pleasure in selflessly doing something so significant and at such a young age too! Hopefully quite an inspiration to others.”
