Yesterday, former professional footballer Les Ferdinand visited London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s helipad atop The Royal London Hospital.
Meeting our advanced trauma team – who attended to over 1,700 missions last year – Les urged the public to support London’s only air ambulance service.
Les said: “It was brilliant to go up and see the incredible work that the medics, pilots and fire crew do every day and learn about how they attend to Londoners in their hour of need.
"You never know when you might need them and I would urge anyone if they can, to support this much needed charity, it really does rely on London’s support to operate.”
Last week, we launched our Up Against Time appeal – the largest appeal in the charity’s history – to raise £15 million by 2024 to replace our two helicopters. Many people are unaware that the service is a charity, with 89 per cent of our funding coming from public donations. Our medics are the only ones who can carry out open chest surgery, give blood transfusions and put patients into an induced coma at the scene, in London, 365 days a year. But we need your help to ensure we can continue to be there for London’s most critically injured.
London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s CEO, Jonathan Jenkins, said: “QPR stands out as one of the most community-focused clubs in London and Les is a huge part of the reason why. Our crew attends hundreds of missions across London every year and we couldn’t be happier to have a legend like Sir Les up at our helipad. As a Spurs fan myself, I enjoyed quizzing him about his time at White Hart Lane but for this weekend only I’ll be cheering on the Super Hoops.”
