In May 2026, our expert team of doctors and paramedics treated 205 patients, making May the busiest month of the year so far.
These individuals were so critically injured that they didn’t have time to get to hospital and needed complex medical care on scene. Treating these patients at the roadside involved administering 30 arterial lines, 28 rapid sequence inductions, 26 blood transfusions, two thoracotomies (open chest surgery) and more potentially life-saving interventions, some of which only our team can provide on scene in London.
Our ECAT team also had 11 shifts during May – making this month their busiest so far as well. During these shifts they treated eight patients:you can read more about our ECAT team here.
Transport-related injuries resulted in the most patients this month: 66 patients (32 per cent). Penetrating impact resulted in 59 patients (29 per cent), falls 43 patients (21 per cent), medical-related injuries 16 (eight per cent), blunt impact 10 (five per cent) and other mechanisms of injury nine (four per cent) – these included airway-related and environment-related injuries. There were also three patients with unknown mechanisms of injury (one per cent).

We attend the area within the M25 and can fly to any location within that space in 11 minutes. During May, we attended the boroughs of Bexley and Newham the most, followed by Brent and Ealing.
After we have stabilised the patient on scene, we usually accompany them to the nearest major trauma hospital in an LAS road ambulance. In this month, we took 43 patients to St Mary’s Hospital (32.4 per cent), 43 patients to The Royal London Hospital (30.9 per cent), 31 to King’s College Hospital (22.3 per cent) and 13 to St George’s (9.4 per cent). We also flew four patients to hospital: it’s incredibly rare for this number to be so high, as this isn’t the main reason for us to attend a scene.
We are here for London, to bring hope to every emergency, today, tomorrow and always. But we’re a charity, with 95 per cent of our funding reliant on public donations. Only with your support can we continue to save lives and ensure more people have the chance to experience more moments with their loved ones.
