131 patients were treated in November 2021

In November 2021, our advanced trauma teams attended to 131 patients across London.

Providing pre-hospital care to London’s most critically-injured patients, the treatments London’s Air Ambulance’s trauma team performed across the month included 23 ultrasounds, 11 rapid sequence intubations, eight blood transfusions and one thoracotomy. Administering these complex interventions at the roadside – when time is of the essence – gives our patients a higher chance of survival.

The most common mechanism of injury was penetrating trauma, of which our trauma team attended to 40. There were 31 patients from both road traffic collisions and falls from height, with 21 cases having other mechanisms of injury. There were also eight occurrences of medical injury.

Nearly half of all patients (44 per cent) were taken to The Royal London Hospital, with 28 per cent being taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, 13 per cent to King’s College Hospital and 12 per cent to St. George’s Hospital.

If you’re interested to see how these figures differ each month and compare to one another, read October’s monthly mission report.

London’s Air Ambulance – via helicopter and rapid response cars – brings the hospital to the scene; delivering urgent, cutting-edge medical care when time is critical. It is because of our amazing supporters that our teams are able to get to patients to administer this life-saving treatment. Will you help us be there for all those who need us?
