Adele with two of our female medics

Thanks to your support, we have a team of pilots who play a vital role at London’s Air Ambulance Charity: flying our medics to the patient’s side as quickly as possible.

To mark this year’s International Women’s Day and share some inspiration, we’re shining a spotlight on one of the team behind the helicopter controls, Pilot Adele.

When women inspire women

“I didn’t grow up wanting to be a pilot,” said Adele, “I’d never seen anybody who looked like me doing it, so it hadn’t occurred to me that it was an option.

“But then I met a female pilot and after one quick conversation with her, she literally changed my life.”

After trying out an introductory flight, flying over Vancouver Island, Adele couldn’t picture herself doing anything else and decided she’d do whatever it took to work in the industry.

Adele sat in London's Air Ambulance's helicopterAdele dedicated her life to becoming a helicopter pilot and immersed herself in as many experiences as possible. She received a scholarship from the Whirly-Girls – a female helicopter pilot association – who were instrumental in her career and provided her with many different skillsets.

Fast forward to 2025 and Adele joined our team of pilots here at London’s Air Ambulance, flying our fleet of helicopters to the streets of London when someone is critically injured.

“It’s been an absolute dream come true. The missions we do here are mind-blowing and the complex airspaces we fly in are incredible.

“It’s a privilege to be able to help someone on the worst day of their life.”

With your continued support and generosity, Adele and our team of pilots will continue to fly over London, delivering our medics to a patient’s side in time to make a difference.

It costs £14 million a year to run our service, but with you by our side, we’ll continue to be here for London, today, tomorrow, always.
