Former Formula One racing driver Sir Stirling Moss has joined the London’s Air Ambulance ‘Your London, Your Helicopter’ campaign. West Kensington born, Sir Stirling was treated by the charity’s advanced trauma team when he suffered a terrible fall in his home in 2010. He joins Graham Norton, Richard Branson, Twiggy and Larry Lamb in supporting the charity’s call for a second emergency medical helicopter for London.

Sir Stirling Moss said: “I’ve borrowed the services London’s Air Ambulance provides following an accident at home. Thanks to the speed and quality of the care it delivers I am here today, in one piece. For that reason I can wholeheartedly say the team is second to none. I always take a moment to reflect on how different and hard things might have been for my family without the swift intervention of London’s Air Ambulance.

“I’m immensely grateful and proud to support the charity after it helped me in my time of need. The least I can do now is call on other Londoner’s to join me in supporting its campaign for a second aircraft and help it to save more lives. London needs a second helicopter, please donate at yourhelicopter.london or text HELICOPTER to 70800 to donate £5.”

Knowing that London has only a single emergency medical helicopter for the 10 million people in London evert day, Sir Moss joins Twiggy, Graham Norton, Richard Branson and Larry Lamb in supporting the campaign. All have helped to raise awareness by posing for a photo with the campaign t-shirt and are encouraging people to donate too.

  • Twiggy said: “I was shocked to find out that London only has one helicopter for life-threatening medical emergencies. When I learnt London’s Air Ambulance needed to raise money for a second helicopter, I wanted to help this life-saving charity in any way I can.”
  • Larry Lamb said: "A Londoner born and bred... I'm hugely proud and full of admiration for the doctors and paramedics at London’s Air Ambulance who work tirelessly around the clock to save lives. One of those lives might someday be mine or someone close to me so I am committed to helping make sure London’s Air Ambulance always has a helicopter available."
  • Richard Branson said on Twitter: “A second advanced trauma helicopter will protect 10 millon. I support London’s Air Ambulance. Do you?”

In its largest ever fundraising drive, the ‘Your London, Your Helicopter’ campaign is hoping to raise £4.4 million, of which £2.22 million is still needed, to acquire and sustain a second helicopter and extend its daylight flying hours for five years.
