Yvonne, 3rd year Law student at University of Westminster, reflects on a year of volunteering at London's Air Ambulance.

"I decided to volunteer for London's Air Ambulance as I wanted to make a difference and to do something worthwhile with my spare time. I felt that London's Air Ambulance was a great charity to support as they provide an important service, one that anyone in London could require.

In my role I support the Volunteer Manager to recruit volunteers for numerous positions, ranging from volunteer drivers to fundraisers. Volunteers are a core aspect of any charity, therefore it is crucial that I am able to help recruit as many as possible and help find the right thing for them to help with. I also assist on supporting specific projects, such as National Air Ambulance Week. It was a wonderful success which relied hugely on volunteer support and over £13,000 was raised!

London's Air Ambulance has fast become a charity that I now hold dear. I feel honoured to be associated and to have devoted my time to such a fantastic life-saving charity. Every staff member and volunteer has been incredibly friendly and welcoming, I always look forward to coming into the office each week. I have also had a chance to visit the helipad — an exciting and unique experience!

As a Law undergraduate, extra-curricular activities are incredibly important — particularly to help you stand out from the crowd. Volunteering has allowed me to develop my employability skills, such as time-management, communication and teamwork. I have also found that it provides a great opportunity to open up the conversation with interviewers. Potential employers have been very keen to learn more about the charity and my volunteering experience. Through connections at London's Air Ambulance, I have even managed to obtain a week’s work experience at a leading law firm!

I would recommend volunteering to others and would advise to definitely get involved if you can. It can be a regular commitment or even just a few hours per week. London's Air Ambulance are very flexible when it comes to volunteering opportunities so you can schedule it around your studies. Not only will it boost your CV, but it is a great experience and a fantastic chance to meet new people."
