London’s Air Ambulance Patron Maurice Thompson, will lead a contingent of Citi colleagues, colleagues and family in a 17 storey abseil down The Royal London Hospital, home to the charity’s helipad. The abseil is part of National Air Ambulance Week (23rd — 27th September) and will help raise funds for London’s Air Ambulance which relies on generous charitable donations from the public to deliver an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London.

Maurice Thompson is Vice Chairman and Citi Country Officer for the UK for Citi, the leading global bank. On 26th September, Maurice Thompson will be one of the first abseilers to make the descent down the 284 ft, seventeen-storey hospital alongside Graham Hodgkin, CEO of London’s Air Ambulance (himself a former Deutsche Bank employee), and TV Doctor Dr Hilary Jones. Maurice, followed by his wife and four children and colleagues from Citi, will, together with other intrepid supporters and ex patients, descend the hospital walls to fundraise for the charity in a week dedicated to air ambulances nationwide. Maurice aims to raise awareness about London’s Air Ambulance’s clinical work and its need to fund a second aircraft and extended daylight flying hours. Maurice Thompson said: “London’s Air Ambulance is a charity providing a world class service to a world class city. All Londoners should be aware of and support this fantastic organisation.”

Graham Hodgkin, CEO of London’s Air Ambulance, said: “As the financial heart of London, City support is very much needed as we strive to continue delivering our advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London and fundraise to deliver a second helicopter and extended daylight flying hours.” Maurice Thompson pledges his support for London’s Air Ambulance during National Air Ambulance Week, an initiative put together by the Association of Air Ambulances (‘AAA’), the trade body which unites not only Air Ambulance charities from across the country, but also operators and ambulance services. The Association gives a national voice to a local service.
