Violet with her cycling medal

Violet, a nine year old girl in Southend, recently completed the Foulness Bike Ride to raise funds and awareness of London’s Air Ambulance Charity. This involved cycling a full 23 miles – an astounding distance when Violet’s usual cycle route is to the nearby park and back!

Michael, her father, explained he has previously done some fundraising of his own and Violet is now at the age where she wanted to follow in his footsteps.

“She’s seen me do some similar events in the past,” said Michael, “but one day a few months ago she came home and asked if there was something she could do herself.

“It was great seeing her independently raise some funds for the first time.”

Luckily Violet had nice weather and a pocket full of Haribo’s to keep her going. She’s raised over £500 for our charity with her first event and she’s keen to do more in the future.

Violet said: “There was one time where I wanted to stop and go back, but I didn’t, I kept going and did the last bit.

“I was super tired after, it took me three hours, but I’m really happy and my medal is now up in my room!”

We’re so thankful to Violet and super impressed with her efforts! She’s proved anyone of any age can fundraise if they want to – have you thought about doing an event? We can only be there for London with the support of people like you.

“Growing up and living in London nearly all my life, I know how valuable the service is,” said Michael. “We’re really glad we could support it."
