To celebrate volunteers week, we hear from Diamond about why she chose to volunteer for London's Air Ambulance.

Why did you start volunteering with London’s Air Ambulance Charity?

"I initially started volunteering for London's Air Ambulance Charity due to the fact that I highly aspire to be a paramedic/air paramedic. Therefore being in the environment was exhilarating no matter the role."

What has been your highlight so far?

"My highlight so far was helipad simulation and being able to learn & see more about the helicopter and the crew."

What have you learned through volunteering?

"I have learnt an immense amount which has truly opened my eyes into the career path that I would like to take. As I was able to be given an insight in how thoracotomy, road side anaesthesia and patient packaging works. Although I have also learnt that London's Air Ambulance runs majorly on donations and without the public, the service would not be able to operate."

How has volunteering changed during Covid-19?

"COVID-19 has changed my volunteering as I am no longer able to volunteer in the admin office, and was redeployed to Nightingale via St John Ambulance, who I also volunteer for."

What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering?

"If you are thinking to volunteer for London's Air Ambulance Charity, I would say do it without a thought. It’s truly an amazing charity and highly rewarding. GO FOR IT!"
