Summer 2025 contract pilots

Would you like to work within a high performing and motivated team of pilots, delivering HEMS to the people of London?

We are recruiting motivated pilots with high personal and professional standards, to join the London’s Air Ambulance team. We have various roles on offer which suit developing and established pilots. If you have the skills and experience, we invite applications for the positions below:

We are receiving expressions of interest for contracted pilots to support our Summer 2025 extended hours rota, EC135 experience is essential.

London’s Air Ambulance have a small team of pilots who are dedicated in maintaining high standards of aviation, in order to deliver HEMS to the people of London. We are currently changing our fleet to the EC135 T3H, a change which will embody modernisation of our multi-pilot aviation environment.

Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, London / RAF Northolt

Day to day, we work closely with the medical, fire and support staff. All are prepared and rehearsed in their roles and strive to provide the best service possible. We also liaise outside London's Air Ambulance, within the wider air ambulance network and other emergency services community to ensure a safe, efficient operations in line with industry best practice.

Our flights are short and mostly within the busy airspace of London to land and deliver clinical teams to scene with safety as our top priority. Where situations allow, once landed and shut down, pilots help clinical crews with logistics and also act as ambassadors for the charity, liaising with the public.

HEMS Co-Pilot

Contract: Permanent

Location: Helipad, Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel Road, London, RAF Northolt

Salary: £65,000 + benefits, including private health insurance

We are searching for a Co-Pilot ideally with some HEMS experience to join our team and develop the essential skills and experience towards command.

London’s Air Ambulance have a small team of pilots who are dedicated in maintaining high standards of aviation in order to deliver HEMS to the people of London. We are currently changing our fleet to the EC135 T3H, a change which will embody modernization of our multi-pilot aviation environment.

You will form a key part in our succession planning, with a clear pathway towards command. You will be mentored and supported with an expectation to achieve this within 2 years, dependent on progress and experience. You will be dedicated to maintaining high standards of aviation, striving for continuous improvement and actively working towards standards of excellence.

Day to day, we work closely within small teams which include the medical, fire and support staff. All are prepared and rehearsed in their roles and strive to provide the best service possible.

We also liaise outside LAA, within the wider air ambulance network and other emergency services to ensure a safe, efficient operations in line with industry best practice.

Selection process and Timetable

A fair and equitable interview process will be conducted to select the suitable candidate for this role. There will be a first stage, remote interview with our team. Successful candidates from this round will be invited to a complete an online Psychometric and Competency assessment and conduct a remote interview which aims to assess pilot core competencies. Successful candidates from this round will be invited to a simulator assessment, off site, which will assess your technical, non-technical skills. A final face to face interview will be held at our helipad / offices with our team.

Flight Operations Officer

Do you want to contribute to saving lives? Do you understand of the role of HEMS in the UK?

This is an exciting new opportunity to join our Flight Operations team. The role will assist in the safe, smooth, efficient and reliable day-to-day running of LAA’s HEMS flight operations. 

Reporting directly to the Chief Pilot the post holder is responsible for working collaboratively to ensure that the day to day flight operations function is executed in as efficient and effective way as possible. The role will require proactively working in close collaboration and liaison with colleagues from the aviation, non-aviation and clinical sectors of the charity.

We are looking for a person with an excellent working knowledge of UK HEMS flight operations. You will have experience in rotary / commercial or a similar organisation who is self-motivated and can work within a multidisciplinary team with high levels of accountability.

Flight Operations and Part CAMO Safety and Compliance Manager

The Safety and Compliance Manager (SCM) reports directly to the Accountable Manager (AM) and is responsible for ensuring that London’s Air Ambulance (LAA) and the appointed personnel maintain the necessary compliance with the approvals and exemptions that are applicable to the AOC and CAMO, ensuring in liaison with the Chief Pilot and the Continuing Airworthiness Manager (CAM), compliance with the Operations Manuals and the Continuing Airworthiness Management Exposition (CAME). Additionally, the SCM is responsible for, and is the focal point for, the development, administration and maintenance of an effective Safety Management and Compliance Monitoring System, that serves all parts of LAA operations.

This is a full time, non-flying, hybrid role and requires a skilled and experienced aviation professional with the necessary training, knowledge and attitude to provide the Safety and Compliance Management oversight of LAA’s Flight Operations and Part-CAMO activities, working alongside the AM, Chief Pilot, CAM, other Nominated Persons, operational, clinical and charity staff.

2 X HEMS Captain

Contract: 2 x Permanent

Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 (depending upon experience and qualifications) + benefits, including 
private health insurance.

We are looking to appoint two experienced HEMS Captains, one of whom will hold a type rating instructor / type rating examiner qualification to deliver our training programme.

As a London’s Air Ambulance Captain you will be responsible for ensuring that all flights are operated Safely and in accordance with the Operations Manual. You will be used to establishing a strong team environment which will ensure the team is ready to respond swiftly.

You will have experience in HEMS, or an equivalent service, and able to work within a multidisciplinary team with high levels of accountability in sometimes difficult and challenging conditions.

Day to day, we work closely with the medical, fire and support staff. All are prepared and rehearsed in their roles and strive to provide the best service possible. We also liaise outside LAA, within the wider air ambulance network and other emergency services community to ensure a safe, efficient operations in line with industry best practice.
