Crew on the helipad

As we come to the end of December, we’re looking back over the highlights of the year.

From launching a clinical trial using AI and creating a first-of-its-kind resource for children who have a loved one in hospital, to appearing in a Netflix documentary and refreshing our brand, London’s only air ambulance has achieved a lot.

Throughout 2025 our expert teams also continued to serve London – bringing hope to every emergency. Providing complex medical care on scene, our crew saved lives where others couldn’t, thanks to the ongoing support of our city.

We look forward to building on our work in 2026 with London by our side.

Sharing our new strategy

In April, we shared Hope Across London, our new organisational strategy which will take us to our 50th birthday in 2039.

This strategy will see us focus on innovating and developing pre-hospital care, securing the best for every one of our patients and families.

Launching ECMO to UK’s streets for the first time ever

In May, we brought pre-hospital ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) to London for the first time, offering people suffering from cardiac arrest a chance at survival that wasn’t there before.

At present, no other air ambulance service in the UK has this capability, but early intervention for these patients is crucial to maximising the chances of survival. Through this clinical development, we’re continuing to bring hope to Londoners.

Announcing permanent specialist HEMS paramedics

In July, to celebrate International Paramedics’ Day, we announced the appointment of three specialist HEMS paramedics to our service for the first time ever.

This development ensured individuals can significantly contribute to the development of the system, while marking an important stage in our commitment to the paramedic profession.

Expanding our patient liaison service

In July, we hired our third Patient Liaison Nurse, Imogen, who will be working for us part time at St George’s Hospital.

Developing this team will ensure we can there for every one of our patients and their families, as they navigate the difficult path of recovery – or bereavement – following traumatic injury. It will also increase the number of resources we can continue to create, to support the patient of tomorrow.

Welcoming Dr Anne Weaver as our new Medical Director

In November, we shared the news that Anne was taking over from Dr Tom Hurst as our new Medical Director.

Anne said: “Ultimately our role as clinicians is to provide the best possible outcome for our patients and I’m excited to continue working with our medical, aviation and charity teams to make that a reality, not just for London, but to help influence practice across the UK and world.”

We’re grateful to all our supporters who have helped us achieve this in 2025. Because of this ongoing commitment to our cause we’re here for London, today, tomorrow and always.
