RED Construction Group – a construction company based in Farringdon – has so far raised an incredible £32,000 for London’s Air Ambulance Charity by putting their employees through cycling team-bonding challenges in France. And they’re not stopping there.
For the last two years – with this year’s booked for September – 12 members of RED Construction Group have travelled to continental Europe, covering Germany, Switzerland, France and Luxembourg to complete the Extra Mile Challenge.
This involves a cycle relay race of 500 miles between four people, over three days.
“Three years ago, the person organising our involvement in the event (Peter) was involved in a traffic accident and seriously injured,” said Amber, a participant from RED Construction’s team.
“Thanks to the quick response from London’s Air Ambulance, Peter is still here with us today. To show our gratitude we have been supporting the charity since.”
The company has raised around £15,000 each year so far, with this year set to meet those expectations once again, which would take their total to £38,000.
“Instead of asking to simply donate, we run sponsorship schemes of our cycling jerseys.
“It’s a really good industry-specific way of fundraising – we give them an incentive and they help us raise amazing amounts of money!
“We wouldn’t be able to do it without the generosity of our clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
“The connection of Peter’s story also really encourages everyone – our fundraising efforts are authentic and tangible and we’re all very thankful the charity was able to help Pete that day.”
This year’s event will be the first one Peter himself is able to attend, which will be an exciting and momentous day for the wider team at RED Construction. We wish him all the best when tackling the Swiss Alps in this year’s route!
