When selecting its Charity of the Year for 2022, Northwood Golf Club chose London’s Air Ambulance Charity and raised a staggering amount of over £30,000.

Ladies’ Captain at Northwood, Clare Brown, said: “We wanted to pick a small charity, one maybe you hope you’d never need but you’re glad it’s there. That led us to London’s Air Ambulance Charity.”

One of the fundraising events dedicated to London’s Air Ambulance Charity was the Ladies’ Captain’s Day, which occurred on 5 July 2022. The day saw 75 people take to the green, with fun assists available to be bought if needed. There was a lunch, a raffle and a silent auction, with a red theme throughout.

“All the flags were red, which confused a few players but definitely added to the fun!” said Clare. “We had London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s bunting strung up, all prizes were wrapped in red and the auction and raffle prizes had tags made with your logo on them. It was a great day.”

The auction alone that day raised £1,400 with all the prizes for the competition donated. The day altogether raised over £3,000.

Another big day in the calendar was the Captains’ Charity Day, which occurred on 15 September 2022. Once again, the club saw many players arrive and participate in fundraising activities, which raised over £7,000 through a combination of hole sponsorship, entrance fees, a raffle and an auction.

Ian Johnston, Northwood Club Captain, said:

“I play London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s lottery, so I am aware of what the air ambulance does for London, and for the country. It’s been brilliant to share this with the club.”

Alongside the main event days, Northwood Golf Club members have taken fundraising into their own hands. One lady is altering clothes for members and earlier in the year a pair of men played four rounds of golf in one day (see above image). Another member ran an ultra-marathon (54 miles) to encourage more donations.

“People have been amazingly generous,” said Clare, to which Ian echoed: “The support for London’s Air Ambulance Charity from the club has been enormous. Everyone has been so receptive to the need to raise money.”

We’re so grateful to Ian, Clare, Northwood Golf Club and all its members for their incredible efforts throughout 2022. If you would like to discuss how your sports or leisure club can support London’s only air ambulance service, please get in touch via [email protected].
