On the evening of 21 December 2021, underneath the iconic Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square, Popchoir once again fundraised for London’s Air Ambulance Charity with their performance of Christmas songs.
A programme of festive tunes was delivered by 100 choir members, including favourites such as “I Wish it Could Be Christmas Every Day”, “Fairytale of New York” and “Santa Claus is Coming To Town”, as well as classics such as “O Holy Night”, “Do You Hear What I Hear?” and “Hallelujah”. Helen Hampton, Director of Popchoir, exclaimed: “It was unashamedly wall-to-wall Christmas!”
Helen started Popchoir in 2008, with the aim to provide amateur singers with a choir in which they could have fun, regardless of their experience or their ability to read music. She said: “I thought people might enjoy a choir where they could sing the music they listened to on the radio. It seems I was right!”
Popchoir has supported London’s Air Ambulance Charity many times over the last few years, for which we are incredibly grateful. Helen said: “It feels right to support a charity that is equally synonymous with our great capital city. As Londoners, we know the importance of London’s Air Ambulance in helping save the lives of the city’s people, whether resident, commuting or tourists. The precious minutes saved by them is something we all want to know is there for us if we should ever need it.”
Infront of an audience, underneath the tree – which has been Popchoir’s tradition for the past seven years – there was an immense sense of community, and we are proud to have been part of it. “My ethos for Popchoir has always been to use our singing to support the local communities in which we rehearse. The members of Popchoir love to get out and sing, but the joy of singing is enhanced enormously when there is a further purpose such as raising money for charity,” explained Helen.
Popchoir also performed at London St Pancras on 2 December 2021, where they raised £916 for London’s Air Ambulance Charity. Our mission is to save more lives in the London community through rapid response and cutting-edge care, and it is brilliant to see the community coming out and supporting us. A big thank you to Helen and the members of Popchoir!
Helen concluded: “We are very proud to support London’s Air Ambulance Charity and to help spread the message about the vital work that it does, for which we are all truly grateful.”
