In May 2025, John organised a charity rugby fixture to raise funds and awareness for London’s Air Ambulance Charity.
As an employee of CIS Security, John was well aware of our charity: CIS Security began fundraising for London’s Air Ambulance Charity in 2018. After recognising the critical importance of our service and our need for public support, CIS Security chose London’s Air Ambulance Charity as its charity partner from that point onward.
This year, John chose to use a passion of his to contribute to the cause.
He said: “I have always held a deep respect for emergency services, which is why I felt London’s Air Ambulance Charity was the perfect cause to support. The rugby team I play for includes police, fire and ambulance personnel – people who dedicate their lives to protecting and saving others.
"Choosing London’s Air Ambulance Charity therefore felt fitting because it aligns with the values of my teammates and the broader community we represent.”
On the day, over 80 people attended, with individuals participating in the matches, cheering on from the sidelines and supporting the event. Some of the teams included first responders, making the event a strong show of support for the emergency services community.
Throughout the day there was a raffle held, with generous contributions from CIS Security and East London Rugby Club, a scratch card sale and games. “I personally donated my Martin Johnson England signed shirt as a prize!” said John.
“After the game, FAK Internation kindly paid for the players to have food and we had fun with the ‘Man of the Match / Idiot of the Day’ presentation, adding a light-hearted touch to the competitive day.”
Currently the rugby day has raised over £1,800 – we’re so thankful for John and his team’s dedication to making the fundraising an enjoyable, innovative and meaningful day.
“I wanted to create something that could grow year on year, with the aspiration of establishing an annual charity event. My hope is that this rugby game will continue to raise vital funds for London’s Air Ambulance Charity, while also building stronger community ties and fostering a spirit of collaboration among emergency service workers and supporters alike.
“It was an incredible day and I take my hat off to everyone who came along, supported and contributed. It was fantastic to see the rugby community come together with such generosity and support for a great cause. Special thanks to my wife Kat, Darragh, Lucy, Steph, Lauren, Sorcha, Alix and Anne who all volunteered their time.”
