Wes Streeting MP, the Member of Parliament for Ilford North and the Shadow Secretary of State for Health, has visited London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s helipad.
During the visit on 14 March, Wes met the doctors, paramedics and staff of the charity, hearing about the life-saving work the service does each day – as well as giving his support to the charity’s £15 million appeal to fund the purchase of two new helicopters.
Wes was escorted around the helipad by CEO of London’s Air Ambulance Charity Jonathan Jenkins, and the service’s Medical Director Tom Hurst, meeting the crew on duty and learning about the work done by the air ambulance team.
We need to raise £15 million to replace our two helicopters in October 2024. With just six months to go until the end of the Up Against Time appeal, time is running out to hit our fundraising goal. Support from Londoners has never been more needed.
Shadow Secretary of State for Health, Wes Streeting MP, said: “Lots of people recognise the red helicopter, have seen the teams on TV or read about the lives the teams have saved in the newspaper – but what a lot of people don’t know is that London’s Air Ambulance service is a charity, funded and made possible thanks to the generosity of Londoners who put their hands in their pockets and donate.
“Right now they are fundraising to replace the two brilliant – but sadly rather old – helicopters that they have. The funds will ensure that the crew get the cutting edge kit and technology that they need to continue to save lives.
“There’s just six months left of the appeal and millions still to be raised. Whether its by spreading the word about their charitable status or, if you’re able to, making a donation, it can make all the different in saving lives.”
