Ten members of London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s Physician Response Unit (PRU) ran the Hackney Half marathon on 21 May to raise vital funds for the service.
Dr Annie Chapman, Senior Clinical Fellow with the PRU, said: “We all fancied having an aim for getting fit and decided to do it to raise money for the charity. It was a pertinent route for us, given that we are based in Northeast London.”
The group of clinicians consisted of a variety of running experience: some had previously completed full marathons, some half marathons and some had never run this far before.
Altogether, the 10 running members of the PRU team have raised over £800 for the charity.
Dr Annie said: It was great running to raise money for the charity we work for and believe in. I think lots of us had patients who we'd seen benefit from London’s Air Ambulance’s work in our minds. This kept us motivated and strong, even in the hard miles!
“The run itself was tough but awesome – the crowds and atmosphere were electric and running through the streets we work in felt great. We got a lot of personal cheers in our London’s Air Ambulance Charity vests and t-shirts which kept us going along the way!”
We’re so thankful to our team of PRU runners – and everyone who has completed an event for us this year so far. If you are interested in completing a challenge for London’s Air Ambulance Charity, please get in touch with the team today.
“We’re going to make this a semi-regular occurrence, so are planning our next half marathon for later this year in London. Hopefully the group will expand too. It was a truly great day and we felt very happy and proud to have done it together as a team, for the charity we so care about and the people it helps.”
