We have launched a photography competition calling on the public to submit photos of our helicopters and rapid response car fleet to fill our 2017 Charity Calendar. Money raised from the sale of the calendar will help us to deliver our advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London, and continue saving lives in the capital.

Earlier this week we welcomed charity lottery winner Rebecca Teather from Biggin Hill to our helipad.

Rebecca scooped the top prize of £1,000 in our weekly lottery, which raises vital funds each year for the charity. She is one of the 45,000 hopefuls across London who donate to us to be in with a chance of winning a cash prize.

Marathon runner Dave Cooke will this month be taking on the Virgin London Marathon for us wearing chainmail, in a world record breaking attempt.

Having run six marathons previously, Dave has decided to up the 26.2 mile challenge on 24th April by wearing upper body chainmail, gloves and a hood — weighing almost 20kg in total. Should he achieve this in less than 5:49 hours he will also become a Guinness World Record holder, beating the current record set in 2014.

Four year old Ethan from Hornchurch is one of the lucky winners to name one of our helicopters. The winning name is ‘Rowan’ after his two year old sister.

On a visit to our helipad at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel last week, Ethan and his sister got to see the chosen name. The name has been placed on one of our helicopters, the G-EHMS registered MD902 Explorer.

Ethan’s chosen name, and winning reason, is as follows:

Rowan (G-EHMS)

Did you know that London's Air Ambulance has around 2,000 small charity pots scattered all around London in various corner shops, newsagents and pubs? Small they might seem but each of the pots brings on average £50, which mounts up to an incredible £104,000 a year. The pots, of course, need to be regularly collected and replaced and this is where our volunteer drivers come in.

Twenty six teams took part in our first ever ‘City Bounce’ bubble football tournament on 10 March at Play on Sports Arena in Whitechapel. Raising a total of £15,000, the funds will help us save more lives in London.

More than 130 young City workers put on the inflatable zorbs to play against each other and support the charity. The event was organised in partnership with Tokio Marine Kiln — the leading provider of specialist and corporate insurance.
