London’s Air Ambulance has accepted the keys for their new “Helivan” today following a fundraising campaign by Rotary club members in London.

Rotarians across the capital raised £38,000 to purchase and kit out the Helivan, which will provide a unique way to educate communities across London about the life-saving service the charity provides.

Professor David Lockey, Consultant & Trustee at London’s Air Ambulance, said:

"Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the devastating tragedy at Grenfell Tower yesterday.

"We sent multiple teams of doctors and paramedics to the scene to support our emergency service colleagues at the London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service and Metropolitan Police.

"I would like to thank all of teams involved in the response, with a special mention to the London Fire Brigade for their incredible work which sadly continues.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the tragic incident at London Bridge last night.

"We deployed multiple teams to support our emergency service colleagues, including the London Ambulance Service, the Metropolitan Police and the London Fire Brigade, in assessing and treating multiple casualties.

Two of our wonderful supporters have set off on the challenge of a lifetime to raise money for our charity. Sam and Martyn are hiking the Appalachian Trail in America — an approximately 2,200 mile long route known as the longest hiking only trail in the world.

Sam and Martyn set off on the 8th April to the United States to begin the hike in the southern state of Georgia. They will then be walking through 14 states, up towards the East Coast of America to reach their final destination in Maine.

On Wednesday 26th April, our colleagues from the London Ambulance Service and Metropolitan Police SC019 Unit faced off in a charity rugby match in aid of the victims of the recent Westminster incident and London’s Air Ambulance. After seeing our advanced trauma team’s response to the incident, both organisations decided that 50% of the donations received would go to our charity.

Life and pension firm Phoenix Group has extended its corporate charity partnership with our charity and Midlands Air Ambulance for a further three years, taking the collaboration through to March 2020.
