From Thursday 30 July to Saturday 1 August, we will provide our supporters with an insight into our daily operations by tweeting live movements of our advanced trauma team and operations crew from 06.30-10.00 each day. You can follow the event on Twitter @LDNairamb using #YourHelicopterLive

We will be tweeting #YourHelicopterLive as part of our 'Your London, Your Helicopter' campaign to raise money for a second emergency medical helicopter for London. Our only helicopter has been offline for maintenance for the equivalent of 50 days in 2015.

With over 35 years of experience flying helicopters and 6,000 emergency medical missions under his belt, our pilot George Phillips has a wealth of experience. Not only did he serve in the Army during the Cold War, but he has also saved millions of endangered species in South Georgia. We catch-up atop The Royal London Hospital — where our helipad is based — to learn more about the unexpected journey George took to be sat where he is today.

Early on Sunday 2 August, whilst many were still enjoying a weekend lie-in, over 25,000 cyclists took to the streets of London to cycle the 100 mile route of the 2015 Prudential RideLondon — an event hailed by The Mayor of London as “the greatest mass-participation cycling event in the world." Wearing their London's Air Ambulance cycling jerseys were 66 fundraisers taking on the challenge to raise vital funds for us.

Our charity office volunteer Anne and her partner Geoff hosted a fantastic fundraising party for us this month in Westbourne Park. Raising over £2,700 in total, the event on Saturday 11th July was a huge success.

With something for all ages, there were many different activities on offer to please the crowd including live music, DJ, face painting and a bouncy castle. A graffiti artist was also present, donating his time to paint a large mural of our helicopter for all to see.

Richard Harris, formerly CEO of The Channel Syndicate, is hoping to raise £100,000 towards our ‘Your London, Your Helicopter’ campaign to acquire and sustain a second helicopter.

Richard is offering his services to businesses and asking them to donate his daily rate to us. He will undertake any kind of task from working on reception to providing consultancy services and has already received pledges from Aon, Barbican, XL Catlin, THB and Ironshore.

The very first cohort of students have passed their exams for an Intercalated BSc in Pre-Hospital Medicine with flying colours. This is testament to their enthusiasm and the excellent teaching and dedication by members of The Institute of Pre-Hospital Care at London’s Air Ambulance and Queen Mary University London Faculty. It has been an outstanding year for our 11 students who were accepted to the programme in September 2014.

As we talk in the hospital cafeteria, Liz keeps running off to assist an elderly gentleman in a wheelchair. She might have been managing patient data at London’s Air Ambulance for the last 14 years but she can’t deny the many years she has spent as a nurse in the Emergency Department and at hospital wards.
