London’s Air Ambulance held an evening reception in central London on Tuesday 9th June to thank some of our key supporters in helping to reach the charity’s achievements over the last year.

The venue was kindly donated by our patron His Grace, the Duke of Westminster, and guests were welcomed to The Grosvenor Office by charity, medical and operational teams. Guests were updated on our progress, which, with the help of our supporters, partners and volunteers, we have:

Trinity Church of England School in Bexley raised almost £5,000 for London’s Air Ambulance after we treated a pupil who was hit by a bus. Following 12-year-old Caitlin's accident, the children and their families have raised more than enough to send the advanced trauma team to the side of another critically injured person by helicopter.

The pioneering trauma and emergency care provided by the London’s Air Ambulance and Barts Health NHS Trust features in forthcoming BBC series An Hour To Save Your Life. The three-part series, which returns to BBC Two on Tuesday 2nd June at 9pm, captures life-saving medical innovations at the roadside and in hospital at The Royal London in Whitechapel and St Bartholomew’s in the City — two of Barts Health NHS Trust’s hospitals.

Former Formula One racing driver Sir Stirling Moss has joined the London’s Air Ambulance ‘Your London, Your Helicopter’ campaign. West Kensington born, Sir Stirling was treated by the charity’s advanced trauma team when he suffered a terrible fall in his home in 2010. He joins Graham Norton, Richard Branson, Twiggy and Larry Lamb in supporting the charity’s call for a second emergency medical helicopter for London.

To celebrate National Volunteers week we would like to share the work of some of our individual volunteers. Victoria’s story has been written by Meera, another London's Air Ambulance Volunteer.

‘London’s Air Ambulance relies on donations from the public. By volunteering and raising both money and awareness, you could help save the life of someone in your family, someone at work, the stranger sitting next to you, or indeed help save your own life.’

A London Ambulance Service paramedic visited our offices last week to give emergency life-support and defibrillation training.

Paramedic Lynsey Grant explained to charity staff and volunteers ‘the chain of survival’. She talked about how to recognise early the symptoms of cardiac arrest, through to how to deliver cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

In his continuing efforts to support the charity, Larry Lamb — well known for playing Archie Mitchell in EastEnders and Mick in Gavin and Stacey — will be abseiling off The Royal London Hospital on Friday 19 June.

Born in Edmonton, Larry will be launching our annual abseil to help raise awareness for the charity. He’s encouraging the public to get involved too.

Following on from his support of Your London, Your Helicopter campaign, Larry will be joining 200 other abseilers to descend the 270ft drop to the bottom.

Having trained and worked as a helicopter pilot in the RAF for eleven years, you would think that Sam Thompson had seen it all. However, as he explains, delivering an advanced trauma team to critically injured people in London presents a whole new set of challenges.

Contracted specifically to cover the extended flying hours, Sam joined London’s Air Ambulance in March this year. Up until this time, the aircraft had to stop flying at 18.45.
