John Power

As Chief Fire Officer, John is responsible for fire prevention and safety at the helipad. John has worked in aviation since 1989 and holds a fixed wing private pilot’s licence and a hot air balloon private pilot’s licence. John was a member of the Air Training Corps (ATC) 16F Wood Green and Hornsey until the age of 18, which helped him to get his foot in the door of the aviation business. He enjoys working within such a close knit team and finds meeting ex-patients and their families very rewarding.

Chris Sutton

Chris is a member of our charity’s fire crew, who are responsible for fire prevention, safety and running the operations room at our helipad.

Stuart Whitford

Stuart is a member of our charity’s fire crew, who are responsible for fire prevention, safety and running the operations room at our helipad.

Michael Horton

Michael cycles 14 miles, not including the train ride, to get to work each day. He is also a volunteer fire fighter at The Shuttleworth Collection and Yorkshire Air Museum, providing fire cover for air shows and other events.

Mark Drewitt

Mark joined London's Air Ambulance in January 2018, having previously worked as an aviation firefighter (later crew commander) at London Biggin Hill Airport for nine years. Mark has also served as a retained firefighter/crew commander with Kent Fire & Rescue Service for 12 years. Prior to this, he trained as an electronics engineer and is a qualified domestic electrician. In his spare time, Mark enjoys martial arts, motor sport and music. 

Demi Walsh

Demi joined London’s Air Ambulance in January 2019 as HEMS Service Lead, working closely with and assisting the Helipad & Driver Standards Manager in providing an element of continuity and communication to enable operations to run smoothly.

Our charity today launches a landmark new study in a first for UK air ambulances and pre-hospital care in an aim to reduce deaths due to catastrophic bleeding.

Thanks to funding from Barts Charity, Saracens and The Henry Surtees Foundation, the two-year study will look at the effectiveness of using a new blood product in critically injured patients suffering major trauma in London. 

The product will consist of red blood cells and plasma, and can be given as a transfusion to patients at risk of bleeding to death before arriving at hospital.

Tony was nominated in the ‘Social Pillars: Health’ category for leading the innovative collaboration’s expansion, and the impact it has had on patient experience.

Could you be the designer of our charity’s next Christmas card? We’re looking for a budding young artist to help us say Merry Christmas.

It may feel a little early to start thinking about Christmas, but we’re already on the hunt for a new design for our cards. We send these cards out to some of our supporters, ex-patients and those our charity works closely with.

We were really pleased to welcome two lucky lottery winners and their families to the helipad this month to present them with their winning cheque for £1000.  Thamesmead resident Susan Hazell and New Malden resident Gail Thompson both won the top prize in our weekly lottery draw.  At the helipad they were given a tour of the service and had the opportunity to speak to the medics and operational crews.
