Emily joined London’s Air Ambulance Charity 3 years ago as Helipad Logistics Lead, after working for the London Ambulance Service for two years. Emily is responsible for providing vehicle support for the emergency car fleet which includes supporting the maintenance of the vehicles and ensuring they are mission ready.
Katherine works closely with QMUL to deliver the Institute of Pre-Hospital Care’s BSc and MSc Pre-Hospital Medicine degrees. She has a background of working in the arts charity sector as an Event Manager, delivering busy programmes of both large-scale and small events in fundraising, marketing and professional development. Outside her working life, Katherine enjoys playing the violin and cycling.
I am a consultant Trauma and General (Upper Gastrointestinal) Surgeon at the Royal London Hospital and a consultant in prehospital care with London’s Air Ambulance. I studied medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where my keen interest in the care of critically injured patients developed. Since then, I have trained in busy trauma systems in both South Africa and the UK. Additionally, I am an honorary senior lecturer in Trauma Science at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. I was awarded a Ph.D.
The Physician Response Unit (PRU) wing of our service launched its third team. As a result, the geographical footprint of the PRU expanded to cover Barking, Havering and Redbridge, alongside the existing operations in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Waltham Forest.
We launched the biggest appeal in the charity's history - the Up Against Time appeal. The appeal must raise £15 million by 2024 to replace our helicopter fleet, as the current helicopters come to the end of their lifespan.
